Flashback: Writing for Local Publications!

Written by:

In 2024, I was just starting to really dabble in freelance writing. An acquaintance-turned-friend met with me and offered me the opportunity to write a few articles for the local magazine she wrote for and edited. I took the opportunity to get practice and exposure, of course!

None of the articles are available online, but I was fortunate to get some scans of them. 🙂

I covered local pets:

My baby kitty Polly. She was such a sweet girl. She passed in 2025, so I’m glad I was able to write about her.
My friend’s dog, Rupert!
My other friend’s dog, Kibi!
And, finally, my parents’ cat, Lucy! (I didn’t have a scan for this one.)

I also contributed recipes (which were 100% from my husband). Notice that there’s two versions of each because the same recipe was used for multiple publications:

Macaroni salad for the win. We literally made this today, no joke. It’s so good.
And tasty taco dip. Yum.

The last type of article I contributed was featuring a local veteran. I chose my grandfather, as he was, indeed, a veteran. He passed before I was born, and this was a really nice opportunity to learn about him.

Love you, Grandpa.

Overall, a pretty cool experience! I’m so glad I’ve gotten to experiment with so many different styles and publications since I started this journey. I’m so excited to see what’s next!
